HNC (Higher National Certificate) – Level 4

A HNC is a practical, career focused HE qualification that can lead to employment or progression to a HND/degree.

CertHE (Certificate of Higher Education) – Level 4

A CertHE is a university-level qualification, which is often equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree.

HND (Higher National Diploma) – Level 5

A HND builds on an HNC with broader and deeper study. A HND is often used to progress into a job or to a Level 6 top-up degree.

Foundation Degree (FdA/FdSc) – Level 5

A Foundation Degree is a HE qualification designed with employers with focus on a specific sector/role. They often include work-based learning and can allow progression to a Level 6 degree or top-up.

DipHE (Diploma of Higher Education) – Level 5

A DipHE is often equivalent to the first two years of an undergraduate degree.

BA/BSc (Hons) Top-up – Level 6

A BA/BSc is a route to achieve a full honours degree by adding a final year on top of Level 5 study (such as an HND or Foundation Degree).
