Academic Governance

Our higher education provision is overseen through a clear academic governance structure led by the HE Academic Board and supported by its Academic Standards and Quality Subcommittee.

HE Academic Board (HEAB)

Main academic governance body

  •  Approves and reviews the College’s higher education academic regulations
  • Sets and monitors academic standards and quality assurance arrangements
  • Approves higher education curriculum plans, programme changes and academic policies
  • Receives evidence from lower committees to oversee quality, standards and enhancement

Academic Standards and Quality Subcommittee (ASQS)

Committee of HEAB

  •  Undertakes detailed oversight of programme planning, validation, delivery and review
  • Exercises delegated academic responsibilities, including matters linked to awarding bodies
  • `Considers the HE Academic Regulations and makes recommendations to HEAB
  • Deals with detailed student-facing academic matters, including academic appeals`

ASQS reports to HEAB through formal minutes and recommendations, helping ensure that academic standards, qualityand the student experience are kept under regular review.
