What You Can Apply For

Depending on your chosen course and personal circumstances, you may be eligible to apply for several types of financial support. Each year you study with us, you can apply online for:

Tuition Fee Loan

This covers the full cost of your course fees and is paid directly to your university centre.

Maintenance Loan

This helps with your day-to-day living costs and is paid directly into your bank account. The amount you receive depends on your eligibility.

Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA)

Additional support if you have a disability, long-term health condition, or specific learning difference. Check your eligibility by clicking here.

Childcare and Parent Support

Extra help for eligible learners balancing their studies with raising a family. Find more information by clicking here.

Step-by-Step: Applying for Student Finance

Follow these five steps to get your Student Finance England application sorted. Don’t forget – we’re here to support you through the process if you have questions.

1

Create Your Student Finance Account

Go to the Student Finance England website and set up your online account. If you have studied before and already have an account, simply sign in.

2

Apply for Your Chosen Course

Start your application. You will need to have a few things to hand:

  • Your personal details and address history
  • Your National Insurance number
  • Your bank details
  • Details of your course (you can select East Lancashire UC as your place of study)

3

Submit Your Evidence

Sometimes, Student Finance England will ask you to upload a few documents to support your application. This might include proof of your identity or details about your household income.

4

Wait for Your Assessment

Once you submit everything, your funding is assessed. You will receive a decision letter detailing exactly what support you will receive. Occasionally, they might ask for a little more information to finalise your award.

5

Confirm Your Enrolment

The final step happens when you arrive with us! Once you enrol and we confirm your attendance, Student Finance releases your payments. Your tuition fee loan goes directly to East Lancashire UC (or our validating university partner), and your maintenance loan arrives in your bank account in termly instalments.

When to Apply

Apply as early as possible

Get your application in as soon as the service opens for your starting year.

You do not need a confirmed place

It's never too early to apply. You can submit your university application before you have received a firm offer. If plans change, you can simply update your details later.

Secure your start

Applying early ensures your funding is fully in place for the start of term, letting you focus entirely on your new academic journey.

Studying Part-Time?

Part time students aren’t eligible for additional SFE support (Adult Dependants’ Grant, Childcare Grant, Parents’ Learning Allowance) only DSA, maintenance loan and tuition fee loan.

Extra Support You May Be Able to Access
